Inspired by the anatomy and appearance of the Tussock moth, this look explores layered material transparencies and textures, machine embroidered applique techniques, and metallic closure systems.
The silk chiffon top frays and flows along the body with handsewn darting and raglan french seams appearing as more rigid structural lines, like the segmented wing. The skirt and outer corset-like piece, tightened and secured with a metallic lacing back, acts as the abdomen or thorax, providing an asymmetrical shaping to the multi-piece look. The solid pieces are a textured cotton knit.

This look was drafted using CLO3D pattern software. Each piece was trued and fit by hand while the corset-like garment was draped on a mannequin, informing the base pattern.
